When I first became involved in the union as a workplace rep, I had very little understanding of what being an activist was or on how I could build union presence within my workplace. I was a teacher who understood that things within the system were broken, but had absolutely no idea or plan on how I could influence or implement change. Then I met Gawain.
He spoke with passion and enthusiasm about drawing strength from, not just the number of members we had, but also from the number of reps and activists within the county. It was obvious that he had a clear vision of what this should look like.
He went on to explain that there are things that we can do to encourage more people to not just join the union but to join in as well; to see the union not as a third-party organisation that solves problems for them, but as something that gives them a collective voice and the ability to influence what happens and direct change.
Gawain has courage, passion, confidence, and commitment. He nurtures the strengths and talents of the people he works with and builds teams committed to achieving goals, whilst planning and training activists for the future.
Vote “Gawain Little” for Deputy General Secretary. Let’s all work together for change.
